The Office of Technology Services (OTS) completed the upgrade of the wireless network on all Illinois Tech campuses in August 2018. The new infrastructure provides enhanced wireless connectivity for the Illinois Tech community and provides the the newest wireless technology.
After evaluating several vendors, Illinois Tech selected the newest technology from Cisco Systems. The new 802.11ac Wave2 technology allows for a greater number of device connections per access point and larger throughput (bandwidth). Most of the IT closets used to connect to the wireless access points were upgraded to 10 Gbps while the backbone infrastructure was upgraded to 20 Gbps.
The new wireless is a major an improvement over the current Meru wireless network. To connect to the new wireless network please make sure your wireless capable devices have the latest drivers installed to prevent degraded performance.
