Voice Communications

The Office of Technology Services (OTS) provides telecommunications services to Illinois Tech's Mies Campus and provides assistance to the Downtown, Rice, and Moffett Campuses.

OTS installs, tests, and troubleshoots copper and fiber cabling and performs telephone and voice mailbox programming and installation, as well as customized call answering solutions for university departments. In addition, it arranges pager and cell phone services with wireless carriers.  Please use the red box to the right to navigate to specific information.

VOICE-OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL (VoIP)

With Illinois Tech’s current phone system being approximately 27 years old, and no longer able to be upgraded or have useful features added to it, the university has decided to switch to a Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system.

With this new system, you are able to choose the vehicle through which you will receive work calls. You can utilize a Mitel voice application on your cell phone to send and receive calls, get a new ‘soft phone,’ which is a Mitel application installed on your work computer that can be operated via a headset, or your department can order and purchase from OTS a physical telephone handset for you.  If you choose to use your own cell phone, the calls will always be routed through your IIT phone number, making use of the installed Mitel application, so none of your personal information will be revealed.

The Support Desk staff will be fully trained on the new system and available to assist you by phone at 312-567-3375 or email at supportdesk@iit.edu.
