Computer Repair (Personal)

The Support Desk provides on-site PC repair services for faculty and staff's IIT owned devices.

Work Authorization:  You authorize Illinois Institute of Technology (“Illinois Tech”) technician(s) to perform work on your computer.  You understand that Illinois Tech technicians have been trained to perform computer hardware and software work, but Illinois Tech and its agents are not an authorized service dealer.

Ownership:  You certify that you own the computer system on which the Illinois Tech technician will perform work.  If you are found not to be the true owner of this computer system, you assume all liability for any claim made as the result of the technical support rendered by Illinois Tech on this computer system, including those claims which assert negligence on the part of Illinois Tech and/or its agents.

Loss of Data:  Data is the most important part of a computer system because it is often irreplaceable.  Due to the process of repair or service, data may be damaged, or worse, deleted.  Illinois Tech is not responsible for the loss of any data, which may occur while performing work on my computer.  You understand that you are responsible for backing-up your own data.  You also understand that you are responsible for updating your computer’s operating system (including installing software patches) as well as installing and keeping up-to-date antivirus software.

Privacy:  You understand that, while Illinois Tech technicians will make reasonable efforts to avoid looking at your data on your computer, Illinois Tech technicians may inadvertently see data during the course of their work.  You agree to remove any personal or private files that you do not want Illinois Tech technicians to see.

Release & Indemnification:  You agree to release, indemnify, and hold harmless Illinois Tech and its agents from liability for any claims or damages of any kind that may arise from any computer work performed on your computer, even if caused by the negligence of Illinois Technology and/or its agent(s).  You understand that Illinois Tech is not responsible for any data loss that may occur as a result of work done on your computer.

Voiding of Manufacture Warranties:  You understand that technical support rendered by Illinois Tech may void the manufacturer’s warranties for your computer system.  Illinois Tech does not assume any liability or provide any warranties in the event that the manufacture’s warranties are voided.

Warranty:  You understand that Illinois Tech offers no verbal or written warranty, either expressed or implied, regarding the success of the technical support you receive on your computer system.

Liability:  The liability of Illinois Tech is strictly limited to those damages to your computer system or data that are due to recklessness on the part of Illinois Tech or any of its agents while technical support is being rendered.

Right to Refuse:  In its sole discretion, Illinois Tech and/or its agents reserve the right to refuse to perform work that it believes is beyond the scope of its ability or for other good cause.

Abandoned Equipment:  You understand if your equipment is not picked up within 30 days of the first day that the Support Desk team notifies you to pick it up, your equipment will become the property of Illinois Tech and discarded or redeployed accordingly, at Illinois Tech’s sole discretion.
