What is Confluence

Confluence is Illinois Tech's team collaboration software. It operates as a data repository, Wiki and team collaboration tool. There are add-on products within a marketplace for the Confluence community to use. Two of the current add-ons in place here at IIT are:

  • Gliffy - Gliffy is a great alternative to expensive desktop diagramming tools. Using Gliffy, developers, project managers, system administrators, and others can improve their Confluence documentation, collaborate effectively, and improve productivity.
  • JIRA - JIRA Agile utilizes all of the power of JIRA, making it easy to build and manage your backlog. With support for epics, versions, and swimlanes, the user can easily make empowered choices.

How to Access Confluence

Faculty and Staff can access Confluence through the MyIIT portal from the work tab under the Enterprise Tools channel:

Who Manages Confluence

Appropriate Functional Use

Confluence should be used by departments wanting a central repository of information that is to be shared. Project teams will also benefit by using Confluence as a project management tool.
