Computer Software: Virus Alerts


It is important that you complete each of these steps to secure your PC.

Until you have completed both steps, you will not be able to access the network.

  1. Download and install the latest version of McAfee anti-virus (on the page that opens, login with your IIT email username and password). On the download page, when you click the download link, please SAVE the file to your hard disk and DO NOT click the Open button to open it directly.

    • Faculty/Staff: Here.

    • Students: Here.

    • Note: At the end of the installation, you will be prompted to "Update Now" and "Run On-Demand Scan". Click "Finish" and let McAfee scan your computer for viruses

    • Check here when you complete this step.

  2. Go to Windows Update to get the latest patches for your computer.

  3. After applying any critical Windows patches, you must revisit the Windows Update website until you are told that are no more critical updates needed. This is because some updates can only be installed after earlier ones are applied.

    Note: If your computer is still identified with a virus or missing patches, your computer will be blocked from the IIT network again.
