Internet/WWW: Proxy

In order to restrict access to certain web pages within IIT, OTS has set up an EZProxy server proxy.iit.edu.

What is Proxy.iit.edu?
Proxy.iit.edu is service for providing your users with remote access to your restricted websites within IIT. It is available for any kind of web server. It operates as an intermediary server between your users and your restricted web server. Your users connect to proxy.iit.edu, then it connects on their behalf to your server to obtain web pages and send them back to your users.

Types of restriction
There are various kinds of access controls that can be specified.

  1. Allow only IIT staff and/or students - IIT staff or students accessing your restricted website from a network outside IIT will be prompted for their IIT email and password, and will only be allowed if they are authenticated. This feature has been used in the OTS Software Downloads page to limit access to IIT software to legitimate IIT staff and students.
  2. Password protect websites - Websites can be password protected using a pop/imap email server, ldap server, text file and various other authentication systems.
  3. IP restricted resources - Access to IP restricted resources can be given through proxy.iit.edu.
