Configuring Outlook

To create an email account on Microsoft Outlook, proceed as follows. First click on "Email Accounts" from the "Tools" Menu at the top.

A dialog box will appear . Check the "Add a new email account" in the "email" section(you click on the dot next to it and it places a black dot in it), then click on "Next' (Note this menu can also be used to add an Address book you have from an older version or another machine).

Another dialog box will appear. From the Options listed below Choose "POP3" to access emails from one of IIT's email servers and choose HTTP for web based accounts such as hotmail.

After clicking next the below Dialog Box will appear. Type in your full name and user id in the "User Information" section. To determine the server information, please visit http://ots.iit.edu/howto/checkemail.php for more information. In this example I have entered students.iit.edu as both my incoming and outgoing email server because my email account is on students.iit.edu and my internet connection is within IIT's domain.

Then, type in the user id and password in the "Logon Information" section. Finally, click "Next".

 

If your outgoing email server is different from your incoming email server you will need to add a login and password for the outgoing email server as well. In which case click on More Settings..... button which will give you the below dialog box.

Enter the login and password for your outgoing email server. If you are using the same incoming and outgoing email server simply click the "Use same settings as my incoming mail serve" . If your ISP's email server needs Secure Password Authentication then check that box (this is information you can get from your ISP; if IIT is your Internet Service Provider then note that we do not require Secure Password Authentication).

Click OK when you are done and you should have a working email client that sends and receives emails for you.
