How do I permanently delete email messages from my iPlanet e-mail server mailbox?

When you check e-mails to delete and click the delete icon (garbage can) they are not permanently deleted.

They are simply removed from your inbox and put in your trash. In order to completely and finally remove them from your e-mail account is to purge your trash can (where they are all put after you delete them from your inbox). In order to do this you must click on the folders heading at the top of the page:

where you will be brought to this page:

which lists all of your folders. The bottom one will be your 'Trash Folder.' In order to empty it, click on the 'Empty Trash' icon and click OK when the following message pops up:

In addition, you can set your account to automatically delete email from your trash folder every time you log out. In order to do this, click the "Options" tab at the top of the Webmail interface. Then select Settings from menu on the left. Finally, check the checkbox that reads "Empty folder on logout." After this, your Trash folder will be emptied each time you logout from Webmail.

WARNING: This will permanently and finally delete all of your e-mails in your 'Trash' folder. Everytime before you do this, however, it is suggested that you take a quick and cursory look through the e-mails to make sure that you don't and will not need any of them again or that you have backed up all of the important ones. Once your trash folder is emptied, your space used will decrease and, as a result, you will have more room for new e-mails.
