Use Internet Explorer as an FTP Client

To connect to an FTP server via Internet Explorer ( available in Internet Explorer 5.x onwards), proceed as follows:

In my example I FTP to my account on Hawk the current University Unix server for students. First type in ftp://your_user_id@hawk.cns.iit.edu (if you are trying to gain FTP access to another server you will replace hawk.cns.iit.edu with the name of the server you are trying to connect to) in the internet explorer address bar like the example below. In place of your_user_id, place in your hawk (or other account) user id.

A window will pop up, like the example below. Enter the user id and password for your account (in this example I entered my hawk account login and password) to log in.

Then click log on and that should display your accounts folder structure as below. To copy files from the server/account/folder/etc., right click the file and double click on "Copy to folder"

To copy files into the folder, proceed like you would if the folder is an odinary folder on your desk top(i.e. Copy and Paste).
