Hawk accounts

All students and faculty automatically recieve accounts on the default Unix server (hawk at this time) upon enrollment at IIT. Your login name for Hawk is the same as your email login. Please call the Support Desk to find out your initial password, or if you do not know how to log into Hawk at 312.567.3375 (7-DESK).

To change your password on Hawk (or any UNIX system in general), log into Hawk and run the following command: 'passwd'. You will be prompted to enter your current password, and then your new password twice.

The Support Desk (located in SB 112 H) assists students, faculty and staff in using accounts. You can host the following services on your computer accounts on the IIT Unix servers:

• Personal web pages within the iit.edu domain
• Spaces for data files, coursework, research and personal programs.

Note: All developmental programming work must be stored and run on servers managed by your academic departments.
